As a writer, I’ve always been a fan of words. So, for the past couple of years, I’ve taken to writing down quotes that I like in my daily planner. Some of them are from famous people, some are from people who wish they were famous, others are from family and friends, and still others are from writers and singers and characters who feel like friends.
When thinking about an end-of-the-year blog post, I wanted to do something that would capture the silliness, sassiness and complete randomness of the past 12 months, and I figured what better way to do it than by posting my year in quotes.
Some of them aren’t exactly ground breaking. Most are not eloquent. But each was exactly perfect for the moment, and I hope, all together, they make for a nice read.
P.S. - If you happen to find one of yours in the list, I would like to say thank you for helping to make this year one of the great ones.

Very important things
I’m having a bit of a problem concentrating today, which is not good seeing as how I have some very important things that really should get done today.Maybe it’s because I just downloaded the most fantastic mix CD and all I want to do is drive around and sing. Maybe it’s because everyone I know in Texas is playing in the snow and I really want to play, too (see photo above). Maybe it’s because I just read this and it made me start thinking about checking things off my list. Heck, maybe it’s just because it’s Thursday. (After all, I do get to go to a party on a boat this weekend.)
All good reasons to be distracted, I suppose.
But sadly, not good enough for the people expecting all those very important things…

Rough Drafts
Sorry that I’ve been less than active on here lately. There is an explanation, though. Don’t want you all to think I’ve gone and quit loving you. You see, I’m working on a short story for The Inlander’s 13th annual fiction contest. The Pacific Northwest Inlander is a newspaper that serves Spokane, Eastern Washington and North Idaho, and stories submitted to the contest must be set in the Pacific Northwest.
I first learned about the annual contest last year, and after much coercing from my Pacific Northwest friends, I decided to give it a try this year. Entries are due next Thursday, and with nothing but a (very) rough draft at this point, I have to get busy.
I’ll let you know how it goes. Until then, I hope you’ll all be sipping coffees, wrapping presents and enjoying the holidays!

Full swing
Can you believe three inexperienced Thanksgiving chefs turned this:

Into this:

I still can’t.
It was fantastic, and I swear I gained ten pounds.
But that’s ok, because I skated it all off at the ice rink on Sunday.
Oh yes, ice rinks, Christmas trees and Thanksgiving leftovers. The holidays are in full swing around my house, and I couldn’t be happier!
