Rub my feet?

I’ve never understood those girls who go on Oprah to cry about how messed up their finances are, but absolutely refuse to give up their weekly pedicures, despite their financial advisor’s advice.

While I’ve had a few pedicures in my life, I’ve just never seen how someone can put them in the “must have” category, right alongside things like rent and bread and milk.

However, I must admit, my thinking changed after the pedicure I had on Saturday.

It was good.

And by good, I mean it was Fab. U. Lous.

Maybe it was the massage chair. Maybe it was the 10 minute foot rub. Maybe it was the shiny blue polish that sparkles in the sun.

Yes, it’s cheaper to do your own toes. But honestly, sometimes a girl just needs a foot massage.

And really, bread and milk are SO overrated. ;)

Writer's Block

Ok, I have to confess, I’ve been staring at a blank word doc for the past 20 minutes and can’t think of a single thing to write about.

First, I wanted to write about Fall, but then I remembered it’s 90 degrees in LA today and doesn’t feel like fall at all. Then, I thought I’d write about the upcoming weekend with my mom who’s visiting from Texas, but I realized we’re really not doing anything blog-worthy. Then, it briefly crossed my mind to write a post filled with Excel tips, since that seems to have become my day-to-day, but I fear if I did that I’d lose even my most loyal of readers.

So, here I sit, with a nice chunk of time to write and nothing at all to write about.

I’m pretty sure it’s the career change that’s sent my muse packing. This world of numbers and PowerPoint presentations and html emails and Excel reports is quite different from anything I’ve ever done, and while I love it, it’s taking every bit of my mental energy, winding me up all day and spitting me out a worthless blob of goo at twilight (or after).

You see, it’s always been a point of contention with me: Am I a creative person or not? While that question is an easy one for some, it’s not really for me. Yes, I have a creative side - a melodramatic, uber passionate, totally insane creative side, but I’m also very analytical and organized and detail-oriented, things most creatives aren’t.

What I wanted to learn by making a career change was: Would I be happier in a more analytical position? And I’m happy to report that five weeks in, I am. However, it seems my muse is not.

Who knows, maybe she’s tired of me stuffing her key points between bold tags.

Or maybe she’s scared of elevators.

Or maybe she’s just gone on vacation.

I suppose we’ll see. In the meantime, this is (sadly) all I have to offer.

Enjoy your weekends!

Number 5

Can be checked off the list.

To say it was a great weekend would be an understatement.

The first

Runny nose. Check.

Itchy eyes. Check.

Sore throat. Check.

A crazy craving for chicken noodle soup and someone to take care of me. Check.

Yep, I’m officially getting my first cold of the season, and it’s no fun at all.

Happy October

I know it’s a few days late, but I wanted to say it anyway.

Right now I’m sitting on my bed, warm and cozy in a hoodie, hiding my cold feet under the blankets. The day outside is gray and blustery, the apartment smells like pumpkin candles and it’s almost impossible to deny the fact that fall has arrived.

There are pumpkins for sale outside of the grocery store and red leaves on the sidewalk and just about everyone has traded in their sandals for boots. (Really, how can you not love fall, if only for the boots?)

I’m about to head off to a football game, and I’m thinking of throwing on a scarf and making some hot chocolate to bring along. Wouldn’t that be nice and toasty? I do think so.

Anyway, happy October to you all. I hope it sweeps you off your feet, messes up your hair a bit and makes you smile.
